Retiring the blog

well after 5 years and 356 posts i am retiring the blog! I think she had a good run and lasted longer than most blogs do. Now now dont be sad cause i also have some good news! I HAVE A NEW BLOG! im joining my boys Ryley and Joe and have moved the blog to mixtapesandmemories.wordpress.com so move on over there and keep following me as i talk about...well really nothing haha!

Prayer-Hans Urs von Balthasar

Im currently in a class on prayer and according to my prof this book by Hans Urs von Balthasar is one of the most important books on prayer ever written!

"The word which God addresses to us is a word of love: he utters it in a loud, manly voice in broad daylight, almost menacing, causing man to start out of his dreams and take notice of what he hears-yet it is also a word whispered in the night, soft and alluring, beyond comprehension, a mystery incredible even to the strongest faith, which no creature, however long he lives, will fathom. Now that is a lot to take in but here is what i think we need to pay attention to. God is speaking to us, he is initiating conversation, he starts prayer! We need to realize that God is speaking to us and once we realize this our lives should look a bit different. How we see things in our life should be viewed as God at work in our lives, as we continue to talk to him because he first spoke to us!

Support from friends

So something that i have been learning a lot about as of late is the importance friends play in the lives of their dating/married friends. The problem that any couple will face is not suddenly disappearing off the face of the earth when they start dating. This has been my experience with a few of my friends. they start dating and then i never see them again. Of course there are a lot of problems with this one being that if the relationship goes south then they suddenly re-appear out of no where again! However i think there is a healthy approach to friends who are in relationships and that is support.

There clearly needs to be time management within dating/married relationships so time can be appropriately spent within both friendships and relationships. However i dont think there needs to be such a clear separation from these two. Both the girl/boyfriend needs to be supportive of the others friends and our friends NEED to be supportive of their friends relationship.

I didn't take this as seriously until i entered into a relationship. the need for support and prayer is crucial from friends. wisdom, advice, encouragement are all needed from friends in support of a relationship. AND friends also need to be honest and tell their friends if they are spending too much time with their girl/boyfriend or if they feel neglected. They also need to be up front if they think the relationship is unhealthy or destructive.

These are just a few thoughts I've had over the last few weeks. This of course needs to be taken most seriously with our friends who are married. Marriage is a huge commitment that we constantly need to help our friends with. If you attend a wedding it means you are their saying you will support this marriage and help make sure that teh marriage is glorifying to the LORD and help it not end in divorce. I dont know much on the subject clearly, just some thoughts. :)
